Claim To Fame: She is best known for her starring role in the television series One Day at a Time.

Family Life: She was married to playwright Ronald Sossi from 1967 to 1970 and to film producer Marvin Minoff from 1980 until his death in November 2009.

Info: Franklin's first television role was in The Colgate Comedy Hour when she was nine. She also appeared in a non credited role in the Alfred Hitchcock film The Wrong Man. In 1970, she made her debut on Broadway in the musical Applause, for which she earned a Tony Award nomination. She became well-known for her role as divorced mother Ann Romano on the television situation comedy One Day at a Time (1975?1984).

Franklin has also made appearances on television series like the ABC series Gidget, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. She later focused on stage work, appearing in various theater productions of Grace & Glorie in 1997 and 1998, in Double Act at the American State Festival in July 1998, and in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? at the Public Theater in Pittsburgh.

Trivia: Moved with her family to Beverly Hills when she was 13.

Graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1961.

Once said that because of her red hair and freckles, fans have a hard time believing that she is Jewish.

Attended Smith College and later UCLA.

Won a Theatre World Award and a Tony Award nomination in 1970 for the Broadway musical, Applause.

Where Is She Now: For the last several years, she has appeared in staged readings with Classic and Contemporary American Playwrights (CCAP) in the Los Angeles area. Working along with CCAP in their outreach program, she works with teachers in the English department at North Hollywood, Cleveland and King Drew Medical Magnet high schools. CCAP helps teachers pick out works to incorporate into the curriculum and gives workshops at the schools.
