Updated: 3/21/2008

Name: Andrew McCarthy

Born:  November 29, 1962, New York, New York

Claim to Fame:
When I hear the name Andrew McCarthy I immediately think of the Brat Pack. I think there are two movies that come to mind when most people think of Andrew... 'Pretty In Pink' and 'Less Than Zero.'

Family Life:
Carol Schneider (October 1999 - present) one child (son born in 2002)

She was his college sweetheart, and they married 20 years after they first dated. He later stated his reasons for tracking down Schneider as, "I ran into someone who said they had seen Carol and her boyfriend and they seemed really happy, and for some reason it bothered me for a week. I called her and asked her if she was really with this guy and asked her out for a coffee."[5] In 2002, Schneider gave birth to their son Sam McCarthy.

Brother of writer/director Justin McCarthy

Info:  At seventeen Andrew enrolled in the theatre program at New York University. He left after two years and soon won the lead role in his first feature film, 'Class,' opposite Jacquelyn Bisset. McCarthy quickly went on to star in a succession of box office hits including 'St. Elmo's Fire', 'Pretty In Pink', 'Mannequin', 'Less Than Zero' and the cult and my favorite... 'Weekend at Bernie's.'

Trivia:
Started smoking during the filming of St. Elmo's Fire (his character smoked). Has since quit.

Is an avid and competent pool player.

When the ending to Pretty in Pink (1986) was re-shot, all of the principal actors had to be called back. Andrew McCarthy had already lost a substantial amount of weight and shaved his head for a new role in a New York play called "The Boys of Winter." Although he wore an auburn wig, he's noticeably more gaunt in the reshot scenes.

Has worked alongside fellow actor James Spader in three previous films: Pretty in Pink (1986), Mannequin (1987) and Less Than Zero (1987)

Was one of the nine original members of the 1980s "brat pack", along with Judd Nelson, Mare Winningham, Anthony Michael Hall, Demi Moore, Rob Lowe, Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez and Ally Sheedy

He has walked across Spain, gone down the Amazon River, traversed through much of Africa and Southeast Asia. An avid kayaker, he has paddled in Artic Norway, Alaska, the Pacific and his home waters of the Hudson River off Manhattan.

Where is He Now:
In 2004, he announced that he had once had a serious alcohol problem, which began at twelve years of age. However, in 1992 he entered detox and has been sober since

Well Andrew is still VERY busy in acting. He just appeared on the new NBC series Lipstick Jungle. Also starred in the film 'The Spiderwick Chronicles' this year.

He also just finished another movie called 'Camp Hope'. It is currently in post-production. Not sure of the release date.
