Claim to Fame:   Nia is quite talented. She's a singer, dancer and actress. While she's been in a few different TV show, she's probably best know, at least to people over 35 for her role as
Nicole Chapman on the TV series 'Fame.' She also portrayed Texas Ranger Sydney Cooke in the CBS hit series 'Walker, Texas Ranger'

Got her break when she accompanied a friend to a rehearsal one day and was spotted by the producers, who cast her in the play "Music Shop". This led to guest appearances in TV shows "Hardcastle and McCormick" and "T.J. Hooker".


Trivia:
 Nia attended UCLA on a music scholarship, during which time she performed as Liberace's opening act in Las Vegas on weekends.

She was once engaged to her "Fame" co-star, actor Carlo Imperato.

Mother Elizabeth Peeples is of Filipino, German and Spanish descent. Father Robert is of Italian, Scottish, Irish and Native American Heritage.

Mother is a flamenco dancer, father is an artist.

Her hobbies include hiking, tandem surfing, rollerblading and skiing. She also does a lot of charity work.

Often gets mistaken for Valerie Bertinelli

Her one husband Howard Hewitt was a singer in the group Shalimar.

Where is She Now:  Nia really never slowed down after 'Fame'. She quickly launched her music career with some success. Then she was back on TV in "Walker, Texas Ranger.'

In 2004 she co-hosted the family-makeover series "Pulled Over" on the Style Network.

In addition to this, she does a bunch of charity work. In 2005 she attended and was a mentor at the 2nd annual HatcH audiovisual festival in Bozeman, Montana. HatcH is a film and arts festival
whose mission is to provide mentorship, education, inspiration, and recognition to the next generation of creative innovators.

Also in 2005 she played Detective Hahana on the new Showtime series "Barbershop".
