Name: Sinbad

Born:  November 10, 1956, Benton Harbor, Michigan

Birth Name:
David Adkins

Claim to Fame:
Sinbad became known in the late 1980s and 1990s, appearing on several television series, most notably as Coach Walter Oakes on 'A Different World'.

Another very recognizable role for Sinbad is that of the mail man in the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie 'Jingle All the Way'.

Family Life:
Meredith Fuller (1985 - 1992) (divorced) 2 children
Meredith Adkins (? - present) 1 child

Info:  On March 10, 2007, Sinbad's managers began receiving phone calls of condolence, after people began hearing unsubstantiated rumors of Sinbad's death. Hundreds contacted his managers and production studio, including Lionel Richie.

Sinbad joked the situation off, commenting that, "I wish that people would've called me back like this when I was alive. I gotta die more often. Seriously, my death is gonna be my come-back."

This is apparently the second time Sinbad was the subject of such a rumor. He says such situations are harder on family and friends, who are led to believe it as truth, than on himself. He believes such situations will become more commonplace with increased use of the Internet.

Trivia:
Finalist in Ed McMahon's "Star Search" (1983) talent contest for stand-up comedy. Lost to comedian and Crypt Keeper voice, John Kassir in the final round. Sinbad won his round against fellow comedian Dennis Miller

Toured with the Air Force Tops in Blue program, which is a program of active duty Air Force members who perform shows around the world.

Played college basketball at the University of Denver, but athletic career was ended by an injury.

Sinbad served in the US Air Force. He was almost dismissed with a dishonorable discharge for various misbehavior including going AWOL.

In 2004 he was named the #78 greatest stand-up comic of all time on "Comedy Central Presents: 100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time".

Actor Mark Curry credits Sinbad and Bill Cosby for helping convince him not to commit suicide.

Sinbad was responsible for discovering R&B trio 702; convincing their parents to let him take them to a music convention/competition, under the name "Sweeta than Suga", eventually being heard by music producer Michael Bivins (he's the Biv in Bell, Biv, Devoe).

Where is He Now:
Sinbad, has been in the news a great deal in the last couple of months. This is due to a USO trip he took in 1996 to Bosnia. This is the 'infamous' trip that Hillary Clinton has described as harrowing, where she was under sniper-fire.

In an interview, Sinbad said the "scariest" part of the trip was wondering where he'd eat next. "I think the only 'red-phone' moment was: 'Do we eat here or at the next place.'"

Threat of bullets? Sinbad doesn't remember that, either.

"I never felt that I was in a dangerous position. I never felt being in a sense of peril, or 'Oh, God, I hope I'm going to be OK when I get out of this helicopter or when I get out of his tank.'"

This kind of spurred Sinbad on to become an Obama supporter and to defend Obama in the war over foreign policy credentials.

He also just hosted The Golden Trailer Awards, which honors the best of those mini-movies that preview coming attractions. The ceremony will air May 26th on MyNetwork TV.

In a bit of bad news for Sinbad, word is he owes $2.1 million to the state of California, according to the California Franchise Tax Board.
