The couple separated in 2006 and filed for divorce on March 10, 2011; the divorce was finalized on February 6, 2013. They have two daughters.
Info:
Earned a bachelor's degree in history in 1972 from the University of Dubuque, which he attended on a wrestling scholarship.
In 1975, as a joke, Danza's friends entered him in the New York City Golden Gloves. His professional boxing record is 9-3 (9 knockouts, 7 in the first round), with all but one of his fights, wins and losses, ending in a knockout, including three technical knockouts.
He broke his back skiing in Utah in 1993, and has plates, rods, and screws in his spine. He lost his house in the Northridge quake January 17, 1994.
In 2005, during a segment on his talk show, The Tony Danza Show, while engaged in a go-kart race with NASCAR star Rusty Wallace, Danza's kart flipped after Wallace accidentally bumped him. Neither he nor Wallace was wearing a helmet at the time, but both were uninjured. Danza returned to go-kart racing on October 20, 2005, to challenge IndyCar driver Danica Patrick, but his brakes malfunctioned and he skidded into a wall, unharmed.
In 2010, Danza filmed A&E reality show Teach: Tony Danza, in which he co-instructed a 10th grade English class at Northeast High School in Philadelphia. This lead to the book I'd Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had: My Year as a Rookie Teacher at Northeast High, which was released in 2012.
Trivia:
Turned down the role of "Swan" in The Warriors (1979) for the role of "Tony Banta" on Taxi (1978).
His acting mentor was Judd Hirsch.
He is actually behind the wheel of the cab that's driving across the bridge during the beginning credits of every episode of Taxi (1978).
His character "Tony Banta" in Taxi (1978) was originally called "Phil Banta". The producers thought with him being an inexperienced actor that he would not respond to the name Phil, so they changed it to his real life name.
His first "Hollywood girlfriend" was Taxi (1978) co-star Marilu Henner.
In 1988, Danza was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7000 Hollywood Boulevard.
Tony Micelli, Danza's character on Who's the Boss? (1984), was ranked #23 in TV Guide's list of the "50 Greatest TV Dads of All Time".
Wrote to the late Tupac Shakur while he was in prison. The two later became friends.
Where Are They Now:
Danza starred as Tony Caruso Sr. in the 2018 Netflix series, The Good Cop as "a disgraced, former NYPD officer who never followed the rules." It was cancelled after one season.
At the 2019 ADAPT Leadership Awards, Tony was honored with the Hausman Humanitarian Award in recognition of his exceptional humanitarian contributions to the community.
