Review: From pages of Dave Stevens' graphic novel "The Rocketeer" tells the story of Cliff Secord (Billy Campbell), a young pilot who stumbles across a prototype jet-pack that allows him to become a high flying masked hero in order to save his best girl (Jennifer Connelly), his best friend (Alan Arkin), and the whole world. "The Rocketeer" is a lot like "Raiders of the Lost Ark" in two ways - It's a wonderful throwback to the rollicking adventure serials of the 1930s and it's also a perfect movie. The story, characters, stunts, special effects, sets, costumes, direction, script, and especially the rousing score by James Horner not only work to perfection, but they create a movie that's got something for everyone. It's an adventure film that's exciting, suspenseful, funny, romantic, action-packed, and has heart. It's a comic book movie made before they were even a thing, but this one is in a class all its own. Don't miss out of the high-flying adventure! See "The Rocketeer"!
Fun Fact: In the original graphic novel, Cliff Secord's girlfriend is called Betty Page, not Jenny Blake. Dave Stevens (the creator of the comic novel) based the character "Betty Page" upon his real-life friend, 1950's pin-up girl Bettie Page. She would not allow her name to be used in the film.
