Review: When John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) was a little boy, he made a wish that Ted (Seth MacFarlane), his beloved teddy bear, would come alive. Thirty years later, foul-mouthed Ted is still John's constant companion, much to the chagrin of Lori (Mila Kunis), John's girlfriend. Though Lori's displeasure is exacerbated by the pair's constant consumption of beer and weed, she's not the one who's most disappointed with John; it may take the intervention of John's boyhood toy to help him grow up at last.
Ted is the heartwarming tale of a young boy and his teddy bear, and then they grow up. This movie is completely silly, as Mark Wahlberg plays an immature man who can't quite cut ties with his boyhood teddy bear who talks. Ted is the crudest, most foul-mouthed talking teddy bear I've ever seen in cinema. Come to think of it, he may be the only foul-mouthed teddy bear I've seen in cinema. Either way, this movie is off the rails, but there is a sense of wittiness to the humor that offsets some of the more crass, crazy elements. There's a random appearance from Sam J. Jones as Flash Gordon that is quite hilarious as well. All in all, this is a funny, enjoyable movie that clearly doesn't take itself too seriously. I recommend this to anyone searching for cheap laughs and mindless enjoyment.
Fun Fact: James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli traditionally never allows any James Bond theme to be used in other movies, but Seth MacFarlane wrote her a letter asking for permission to use "All Time High" from Octopussy (1983), as it was his mother's favorite song. Broccoli made a rare exception to her rule, hence John gets to slaughter the tune in a performance in front of a dismayed crowd.
