Claim To Fame: She is best known for portraying the title character on the CBS sitcom Murphy Brown (1988-98).

Family Life: She married French film director Louis Malle in 1980. They had one child, a daughter named Chloe, in 1985. The couple were married until Malle's death from cancer on Thanksgiving Day in 1995. She is now married to New York real estate magnate and philanthropist Marshall Rose.

Info: Bergen landed her debut film in the 1966 drama The Group. She had an average film career before becoming a photojournalist. Finally, she landed the role of the title character on the sitcom Murphy Brown, which earned her two Golden Globes and five Emmys.

As a smart, sassy, outspoken and often difficult TV newsmagazine anchor who also happened to be a recovering alcoholic, Bergen won critical accolades.

In 1998, after a 10-year run, Murphy Brown left the airwaves, but Bergen remained a feminist icon and beloved personality, winning supporting film roles and even hosting her own TV talk show, Exhale With Candice Bergen. In 2005 she returned to the small screen as a series regular on Boston Legal, playing a high-powered lawyer.

At nine years of age, she auditioned for a role as one of the original Mousketeers on The Mickey Mouse Club (1955). Although her father, Edgar Bergen, personally lobbied his friend Walt Disney on her behalf, she was not hired.

Studied drama at HB Studio in Greenwich Village in New York City.

Has played the same character (Murphy Brown) on four different series: Murphy Brown (1988), Seinfeld (1989), Ink (1996) and Family Guy (1999).

Where Are They Now: Bergen is already having a busy year. She's starring in the ensemble comedy Book Club, currently in post-production. Now, she has two projects in pre-production; the film Lapham Rising and the series revival of 'Murphy Brown'.
