Review: When the Reaper Virus spreads throughout Scotland, the country is walled off and successfully quarantined. Now, 25 years later, the virus reappears in London and a team must return to Scotland in the hopes of finding a cure to save the human race. Talk about a convoluted plot...'Doomsday' is an action thriller that is basically a hodgepodge of genre movies. It's 'Escape from New York', 'The Road Warrior', 'Aliens', '28 Days Later', and 'Flesh + Blood'. No, seriously! The movie is fairly entertaining, but you don't really get invested in the characters or the plot. My suggestion to make this one more enjoyable, especially when watching with friends, is to make a game of sorts. As you watch, when you recognize something that's from another movie just yell out, "That's... and the movie title." Don't make it a drinking game because you'd be face down on the floor in 10-15 minutes. It was nice to see Malcolm McDowell and Bob Hoskins, though.

Stars (out of 4):

Fun Fact: Two DDS soldiers sent into Scotland are named "Miller" and "Carpenter". George Miller directed the "Mad Max" trilogy and John Carpenter directed Escape from New York (1981) and Escape from L.A. (1996), all heavily influential to this film.
