Review: Thief Laure Ash (Rebecca Romijn) double-crosses her partners and makes off with a fortune in diamonds. But, before she can get away, Laure is mistaken for another woman and must decide if this bizarre coincidence is her ticket to freedom or will it be her undoing. Brian De Palma has made some of the best thrillers: "Blow Out," "Dressed to Kill," "Carrie," "Scarface," "Carlito's Way," just to name a few. "Femme Fatale" can go up on that list. This movie is all about what you see and how it might not always be what you get...or is it? The first 40 minutes or so are almost free of any dialogue, which makes you pay even closer attention to what you're being shown "Femme Fatale" demands your attention; and I had no problem with that. Rebecca Romijn is clever, desirable, and cold as ice. She's the title character through and through. And Antonio Banderas is really great as a low-rent paparazzi that gets mixed up in the seedy exploits of Laure Ash. This was a great surprise! A good time for fans of erotic thrillers, femme fatales, film-noir, caper movies, and Brian De Palma.
