She was the precocious kid Annie Lawrence on the TV show "Family." And who could forget her per- formance as the "bratty" but loveable daughter of Marsha Mason in the original movie version of the "Goodbye Girl."

Lives with Donald DiPietro and they have a daughter, Anneke DiPietro, born June 2000.

Cummings got her start when she was noticed by famed cinematographer James Wong Howe, and television commercial spots soon started.
She won the role of Lucy McFadden in the 1977 film The Goodbye Girl, which earned her a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress ? Motion Picture.
She became known for her recurring role on the 1978 series Family as Annie.
In the 1980s, Cummings worked more as a casting agent, and later decided to quit acting because she didn't enjoy living her life in the public eye. Her last acting role was in a 1991 episode of Blossom.

Cummings is the inventor of the HipHugger, a stylish, sling-type device for carrying a baby. She was the president of the HipHugger company until she sold it in 2006.

She currently lives in Los Angeles with her daughter and her long-time boyfriend.
