Review: A secret fling between a successful businessman (Roy Scheider) and his mistress (Kelly Preston) leads to blackmail and murder. John Frankenheimer's adaption of the acclaimed Elmore Leonard novel is a thriller rich with characters each more corrupt, depraved, and ugly than the last. Roy Scheider and Ann-Margret are great as the protagonists, but the real stars of this one are Clarence Williams III and John Glover. These two are menacing in such a way that you believe everything they do and say, without question. They take bad guys to a whole new level. Such a dark, gritty, slimy thriller that you'll want to shower after it's over...and that's a compliment.
