Review: In Wes Craven's classic slasher film, several Midwestern teenagers fall prey to Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), a disfigured midnight mangler who preys on the teenagers in their dreams -- which, in turn, kills them in reality. After investigating the phenomenon, Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) begins to suspect that a dark secret kept by her and her friends' parents may be the key to unraveling the mystery, but can Nancy and her boyfriend Glen (Johnny Depp) solve the puzzle before it's too late? A Nightmare on Elm Street in it's simplest form is good, scary fun. Freddy Krueger is on of the most iconic horror villains of all-time, and for good reason. He's creepy, unique, and his presence on screen allows for some of the most enjoyable scenes in the film. This movie provides thrills, suspense, and even some laughs (depending on the type of viewer, I suppose) while taking you on a mysterious journey for the ages. What I really enjoyed about this film was it's creative premise; a villain who exploits their victims while they are at their most vulnerable: in a deep, dreamy sleep. The story moves quickly, and I was genuinely intrigued by how this movie would find its resolution. I found some of the elements of this movie to be rather hilarious in terms of their relevancy to modern times. Krueger has several one-liners that had me laughing through some moments that were otherwise suspenseful. Those nit-picks aside, this movie without a doubt lives up to its classic billing, and I'm glad I mustered up the courage to finally watch it. If you haven't seen this movie, definitely give it your time. One, two, Freddy's coming for you!
