Review: When a serial killer, who's calling himself "Blitz", begins to target police officers, two tough cops (Jason Statham and Paddy Considine) must join forces to hunt him down.

What seems like a been-there-done-that premise, Blitz excels as a compelling crime-drama that's suspenseful, gritty, and hard-hitting.

I'm an unapologetic fan of Jason Statham and his movies. From Snatch to The Meg and everything in between - if Statham's in it, I'm there! I think Blitz is his best movie. He plays Brant, a hard-nosed cop that doesn't play by the rules. What I like is that Statham is indeed tough, but he's very restrained here, in a good way. He plays the drama very well and you really feel his frustration with trying to bring this unexpectedly intelligent killer to justice.

And even though Statham is the star draw this is very much has an ensemble cast which makes Blitz rich with characters that makes you wish it would be turned into a long-running TV series. You have Paddy Considine, Zawe Ashton, David Morrissey, Ned Dennehy, Mark Rylance, Luke Evans and Christina Cole, who I was quite taken with during her scenes with Statham. But the ace-in-the-hole is our lead villain Weiss, played by Aidan Gillen. Gillen relishes the role as the killer on the loose. He so evil, psychotic, and creepy that you hate him so much and can't wait for Statham and Considine to stop his reign of terror. Oh, this is such a good movie!

Not only do you have this thrilling plot, but you have several subplots including a seasoned cop deals with the loss of his wife, a young cop tries to shake her undercover days, Statham being burned out, and a few others that connect characters to the overall story. If you've ever seen the BBC series Luther, starring Idris Elba, Blitz is very much it's feature film contemporary.

I love this movie! It's one of my favorite Statham movies! It's one of my favorite action-cop-thriller flicks! So, if you enjoy gritty thrillers with great characters and fast-paced action, then you'll have a blast with Blitz!
