Movie Title: Bone Tomahawk
Genre: Western, Drama, Horror
Director: S. Craig Zahler
Starring: Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, Richard Jenkins, Lili Simmons, David Arquette, Kathryn Morris
Review: An aged sheriff (Kurt Russell) and his posse (Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, and Richard Jenkins) set out to rescue their town's doctor from cannibalistic cave dwellers.
What starts out as a classic western, with great actors, drags along to a third act that is an unsettling, disturbing gore-fest that will certainly turn off many viewers that were looking for a good western. Viewer Beware: The violence is unflinching and extremely graphic!
The two halves didn't quite mix for me. I was disappointed, but I did enjoy the film-making. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood to watch Bone Tomahawk. I think the unflinching violence and gore caught me off-guard. I'm definitely going to re-watch it at some point and I'll be sure to update my review if need be.
Fun Fact: Jim Broadbent replaced original cast member Richard Jenkins for a few months, when the project was delayed. Jenkins was then re-cast in his role.
