Review: Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) never knew his famous father, boxing champion Apollo Creed, who died before Adonis was born. However, boxing is in his blood, so he seeks out Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) and asks the retired champ to be his trainer. Rocky sees much of Apollo in Adonis, and agrees to mentor him, even as he battles an opponent deadlier than any in the ring. With Rocky's help, Adonis soon gets a title shot, but whether he has the true heart of a fighter remains to be seen. Creed is a superb entry into the Rocky universe, as Sylvester Stallone passes the torch to Michael B. Jordan in this iconic franchise. This film had a great script, interesting characters, and enough originality to differentiate it from its predecessors. Stallone is masterful yet again playing Rocky Balboa, but this time as a tough but thoughtful mentor. Ryan Coogler did a fantastic job using the iconic Rocky character in more of a supporting role and really letting Michael B. Jordan shine as Adonis Creed. The chemistry between Stallone and Jordan is perfect, and Tessa Thompson delivers a standout performance as well. Even at over two hours, the pacing is great, and the story captivates you and keeps you interested throughout. I also thought the filming style of the fight scenes was great. These scenes were intense and shot in a way that make you feel as if you're a part of the action. Creed was a fantastic film, and I can't recommend it enough. I'll be very excited to see where this famed franchise goes now that the torch has officially been passed from Rocky to Creed!

Fun Fact: While training, Adonis wears a shirt with the message "Why do I wanna fight? Because I can't sing and dance..." This was a line from Rocky to Adrian on their ice skating date in the first Rocky (1976).
