Review: Buddy (Will Ferrell) was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa's elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn't fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf uniform, in search of his real father. As it happens, this is Walter Hobbs (James Caan), a cynical businessman. After a DNA test proves this, Walter reluctantly attempts to start a relationship with the childlike Buddy with increasingly chaotic results. Elf is a fantastic Christmas movie for the whole family, and one that I watch every Christmas Eve after National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Will Ferrell is hilarious as Buddy the Elf, providing an iconic character who is both funny and quotable. The chemistry between James Caan's career-oriented Walter Hobbs, and Ferrell's goofy, childlike Buddy is fantastic as the two polar opposites' relationship grows throughout the film. Watching Buddy's trials and tribulations of transitioning from Elf-hood to adulthood is so funny and entertaining. Ferrell is perfect, and I couldn't imagine anyone else playing the role. Elf truly embodies the holiday spirit. It teaches us to embrace family and believe in the spirit of the season. This is the quintessential holiday film, and an absolute classic!

Fun Fact: The elf Ming Ming, who appears briefly in the beginning of the film, is played by Peter Billingsley, who starred as Ralphie Parker in the classic holiday film A Christmas Story (1983).
