Review: Baron Frankenstein (Peter Cushing) discovers a new way to tamper with the laws of nature when he transfers the soul of a murdered young man (Robert Morris) into the body of a woman (Susan Denberg), prompting her to go on a murderous revenge spree. This Hammer horror film is held in rather high regard with fans and critics. Frankenstein Created Woman plays as more of a tragic character drama than a horror film, although it certainly has many horror elements in the mix. Peter Cushing is great, as always, as the twisted Baron Frankenstein, but the real star here is Susan Denberg as the disfigured, crippled Christina. She essentially plays two roles here, pre-Baron Frankenstein and post-Baron Frankenstein. It's a shame that Denberg didn't go on to more movies, she's quite good. Much like the original Frankenstein, and Bride of Frankenstein, Frankenstein Created Woman is about tragedy, murder, and discovering who are the real monsters among us. A real surprise!
Fun Fact: One of Martin Scorsese's favorite films.
