Review: The second installment of boy wizard Harry Potter's (Daniel Radcliffe) adventures at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, based on the novel by JK Rowling. A mysterious elf (Toby Jones) tells Harry to expect trouble during his second year at Hogwarts, but nothing can prepare him for trees that fight back, flying cars, spiders that talk and deadly warnings written in blood on the walls of the school.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second installment in the Harry Potter film franchise. While I thoroughly love all eight Harry Potter films for one reason or another, I think this film is the least noteworthy in the entire series. This is not to say that it's bad, but with a 2 hour and 54 minute runtime, it's incredibly long and I feel like other Potter flciks pack more of a punch. What I do enjoy about Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is that it's the last film in the series to show Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger with a sense of innocence. While visibly older than Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, there's a sense of nostalgia as we get to see our protagonists navigate this crazy wizarding world that they've been thrust into. In the the third film, these characters look vastly older, and kind of lose their innocence a bit. This film is considerably darker and perhaps more action-packed than it's predecessor, but there's something special about Sorcerer's Stone in that it's our first introduction to these beloved characters in a live-action setting. I think that's why this movie never quite lived up to chapter one in my opinion. With all that said, Chamber of Secrets is a highly entertaining and enjoyable movie complete with flying cars, giant talking spiders, and mythical gargantuan snakes that can cause death with single glance. Harry Potter and his friends have their work cut out for them in a very fun movie that is absolutely worth the watch for Potter fans everywhere!

Fun Fact: Daniel Radcliffe was initially only offered £125,000 (approximately $181,500) for this film. The actors' union Equity stepped in and negotiated new terms, which increased his salary to roughly £2 million ($3 million).
