Review: As the supernatural extension of the first film, Scary Movie 2 casts its satirical eye on such iconic classics as The Exorcist and Poltergeist, as well as the more recent films Hannibal, What Lies Beneath and The House on Haunted Hill. In addition to all things supernatural, it lunges even further, taking on pulp icons including Charlie's Angels and Mission Impossible 2.

Scary Movie 2 is the sequel to Scary Movie, a movie that I really enjoyed. The issue with this sequel, however, is that the movie was rushed. Scary Movie 2 came out just one year after it's predecessor, and it was just plain sloppy. The usual gags from the original are still there, and some parts are certainly funny. My issue is that it doesn't really offer up anything to differentiate itself from the first one. This film parodies different movies, but there is a lot more source material than the first one. It seems very unfocused and sometimes difficult to follow. This film just seemed all too predictable and it lost a lot of the cleverness and wit that made the first film so enjoyable. If you enjoyed the first film, it may be worth you time to watch Scary Movie 2 for some cheap laughs. If you haven't seen the original, or you haven't seen any of the classic horror films parodied here, then this movie is basically pointless.

Stars (out of 4):

Fun Fact: The Wayans brothers have said that this sequel was not as strong of a film as the original because the studio wanted it released within a year of the first film's release. They felt it was too rushed.
