Review: The year is 1799 and a young constable from New York named Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp) is summoned to the small town of Sleepy Hollow to uncover the mystery behind a series of strange decapitations. Not only are these murders happening to some of the most notable men in town, but the main suspect is said to be a deadly headless Hessian horseman. With the help of his young sidekick (Marc Pickering) and the beautiful, wealthy town heiress, Katrina Van Tassel (Christina Ricci), Crane must uncover the sinister plot that's terrorizing this small town before it's too late. Sleepy Hollow benefits from a star-studded cast and remarkably beautiful scenery. Johnny Depp is fantastic in the lead role as the eccentric detective, Ichabod Crane. Tim Burton really excels in bringing Sleepy Hollow to life with brilliant shots of gloomy, shadowy forest. This film is also primarily shot through a blue-filtered lens to give the film it's dark, ominous tone. Aside from the wonderful effects, there is a really great story being developed here. There's romance and thrilling tension abound. Being unfamiliar with the outcome of the infamous Sleepy Hollow tale, I was very intrigued by all of the twists and turns as this story unfolded, and had a lot of fun trying to uncover the mystery for myself as the movie progressed. Sleepy Hollow is a highly-entertaining, well-rounded film, and I highly recommend this movie to all fans of horror and American Gothic cinema.

Fun Fact: Johnny Depp adopted Goldeneye, the horse that played Gunpowder, Ichabod Crane's horse in this movie, when he heard it was going to be put down.
