Review: Charlie (Mike Myers), a San Francisco poet, has a bit of a problem with commitment; He broke up with his last girlfriend because she smelled like soup. But when he meets Harriet (Nancy Travis) he falls hard for her and soon Charlie begins to think that she's crazy for him, you know, because she's a psychotic axe-murderer that has a tendency to take "Til death do us part" way too literally. So It's love or his life for Charlie?Just marry an axe-murderer and find out!

After Wayne's World was a huge hit, Mike Myers takes his unique brand of humor to the rom-com for a silly, hilariously twisted good-time. So I Married an Axe Murderer works as a romantic comedy, but, unlike most of them, the humor is actually funny. And the humor is certainly more off-beat. From butcher shop antics to Charlie's eccentric Scottish family there are plenty of laughs that surprise and entertain.

And speaking of surprises, this movie is full of amazing cameos from some of the funniest performers like Alan Arkin, Charles Grodin, Phil Hartman, Steven Wright, Mike Hagerty, and Michael Richards. The cast is loaded with cut-ups!

The other aspect I enjoyed is the relationship between Charlie and Harriet. They seem to be two very different people that genuinely enjoy each other and not in a lame movie way, but a real way. The best part is the hilarious Stuart Mackenzie, also played by Myers. His hysterical tirades are some of the funniest scenes ever. When he yells, "HEED! PANTS! NOW!" I laugh uncontrollably. The movie is worth watching just for that character alone.

My only real gripes are the weird details that we are never told what Charlie does for a living or where he lives. He doesn't seem to do much of anything besides have little adventures here and there, but where does he hang his hat and how does he pay for it? Is he professional poet? And the axe-murderer plot is very silly and predictable so there isn't much tension, but I'm not sure if there was supposed to be any. It's more of a reason for the movie and the type of comedy that it's going for.

So if you're looking for a love connection that's worth killing for then turn off the Bay City Rollers and get ready to giggle with a '90s comedic gem So I Married an Axe Murderer.

Fun Fact: The moment where Tony laughs at Stuart's "Colonel Sanders" bit was not scripted. Anthony LaPaglia's laugh is genuine.
