Review: When their parents marry, two middle-aged man-children are forced to become more than roommates, more than brothers - they become Step Brothers.

Step Brothers is crude, outrageous, imbecilic, and best of all...hilarious! I love this movie! It's such an odd movie. The premise is ludicrous beyond all reason, but thanks to the genius collaboration between Writer-Director Adam McKay and stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, we get one of the greatest absurdist comedies of the last decade.

Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are both hilarious and reprehensible as the titular siblings, but every character is just as bad, if not worse. Mary Steenburgen and Richard Jenkins as the parents are both enablers of their spawn's terrible behavior, Adam Scott is a villainous lunatic, while his wife, played by Kathryn Hahn, has more problems than a math book. And all of this works in the movies favor.

The best part of Step Brothers is that it plays like a conventional family drama, but it's so apologetically absurd that you just laugh at the the ridiculous lengths it will go to show just how lucky we all are not to have these two jagaloons living in our basements. Silly stuff does it for me every single time, and Step Brothers doesn't cheap out on the silly, the raunchiness, or the stupidity. Here's to hoping that Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly never grow up.

Stars (out of 4):

Fun Fact: When Brennan and Dale are in their room, showing each other their night vision goggles and autographed sword, the camera pans around while the characters are walking, and a Hugalo's Pizza car light is on top of the chest of drawers in the room. Will Ferrell's character worked for Hugalo's Pizza in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006), after he lost his job as a race car driver.
