Review: Six friends head out on a road trip to New Orleans. At a rustic tourist trap along Louisiana back roads, they are introduced to the legend of Lockjaw, the locals' version of Bigfoot who is part man, part alligator. According to myth, an inbred local man named Grimley lost his family to a monstrous white alligator and was driven to madness and transformed into the blood-thirsty creature. As the group investigates the legend they come face-to-face with a nightmarish fight for survival.

Promiscuous college kids running from a monster man through the woods is a tried-and-true staple of the horror genre. Creature doesn't bring much originality to the genre, but it does hit all of the familiar beats. You get plenty of blood and guts, monster POV shots, shady rednecks, an overabundance of female nudity, incestuous siblings, a bad monster suit, and terrible secrets. And it's gloriously so bad it's good!..in ever sense! But honestly... it's just bad.

This is a creature feature that has the typical premise for this kind of movie and it does all of those things fairly successfully, but when it the twists and turns start the movie falls apart and it certainly had me scratching my head quite a bit at the bizarre, unexpected reveals, shocks, and surprises. If anything, that made the movie confusing, taking me right out of it, and had me talking to screen. Every few minutes I'd let out a, "Wait. What?!"

Creature is without a doubt "So Bad It's Good" material, but I found it more bad than good. It definitely lives up to its name and does provide an unusual monster and plenty of the gore and nudity that you'd expect this type of horror movie. So enjoy, horror hounds! This one is for you!

Fun Fact: Actor Daniel Bernhardt asked director Fred Andrews if he could play the monster Lockjaw in the film.
