Review: The residents of a rural mining town discover that an unfortunate chemical spill has caused hundreds of little spiders to mutate overnight to the size of SUVs. It's up to mining engineer Chris McCormack (David Arquette), Sheriff Sam Parker (Kari Wuhrer) and her spider enthusiast son, Mike (Scott Terra), to mobilize an eclectic group of townspeople into battle against the bloodthirsty eight-legged beasts. Eight Legged Freaks is a quintessential good/bad B-movie. It has a wild premise, an abundance of green spider guts, and some questionably CGI'd arachnids, but it's a joy to watch. While never truly terrifying, there are some thrilling moments and some humorous elements as well. This movie doesn't take itself seriously, and nor should you. Eight Legged Freaks actually does a great job of playing up the stereotypes that one would expect from a B-level spider invasion flick, and using it to their advantage in a funny, self-deprecating way. This is movie isn't particularly great, but it's also fun, entertaining, and well worth a watch. It's an invasion! They're here! They're hereeeee!
Fun Fact: Riley Smith plays Randy, a teenager with an affinity for riding motocross bikes. Coincidentally, Smith and Scott Terra also star alongside each other in a Disney Channel Original Movie called Motocrossed (2001), revolving around motocross racing.
