Review: A young newlywed couple, Paul (Harry Treadaway) and Bea (Rose Leslie), travel to her family's secluded lake house for a romantic honeymoon. Soon their intimate getaway takes a weird turn after a frantic Paul finds Bea wandering and disoriented in the middle of the night. Paul, worried about his new bride, begins to search for answers to the mystery of what happened that night.

Honeymoon is a deeply unsettling thriller that harkens back to horror thrillers from the 1970s. It's psychological, subtly creepy, and really ratchets-up the tension with its "slow burn" pacing.

The story is really about the two leads and their relationship both pre and post wedding. Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones) and Harry Treadaway (Penny Dreadful) really appear to be an actual couple. They seem genuine, loving, and attracted to one another. They really seem to be in love, which definitely helps the audience to get fully invested into their story.

Once the setup of their remote romantic getaway is established and the blushing bride is discovered in the wandering the surrounding woods Honeymoon really kicks into gear. Paul begins to feel paranoid that Bea is not being completely honest with him about what happened. Bea begins to act guarded and distant as their enchanting escape begins to unravel in ways neither could have ever expected.

I will say that this is a horror movie that's sure to get under your skin; especially if you're a fan of Cronenberg-ian body horror. It'll creep you out, freak you out, and knock you out with its twists and turns, and be sure to brace yourself for its chilling revelations. Honeymoon is so scary that I had a tough time shaking it. It's still sending shivers down mind spine. That's good horror in my book.
