Review: Sleeping Beauty has been rebooted with this live-action retelling of the classic Disney tale...and it's horrible.
The animated classic from 1959 is a classic for a reason. The story, characters, the visuals, and the main reason - the villainous Maleficent. She's evil, cruel, dark, evil, frightening, scary, evil, and evil. In this movie, she's the hero. What?! Why? She starts out like classic Maleficent, but then her backstory retcons everything interesting about her character. Angelina Jolie looks amazing as Maleficent, but honestly, that's the only plus to his snooze-fest of a fantasy film.
Bad CGI, awful acting, bad casting, horrendous script...this is sooooooooooooo bad! Five minutes in I knew I was trouble. I wish Maleficent would cast a spell on me so that I could forget this one.
Fun Fact: All the actors and actresses in Maleficent were partly chosen to be in the movie based on their uncanny resemblances and/or likeness to their respective character counterparts in Disney's Sleeping Beauty (1959).
