Review:
Now why would anybody soak a rope with kerosene? After snarky youth Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) loses track of his father at the airport, he mistakenly gets on a plane headed for New York City -- while the rest of the McCallisters fly to Florida. Now alone in the Big Apple, Kevin cons his way into a room at the Plaza Hotel and begins his usual antics. But when Kevin discovers that the Sticky Bandits (Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern) are on the loose, he struggles to stop them from robbing an elderly man's toy store just before Christmas.
Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
will always be one of my favorite Christmas movies. While I admittedly love the original
Home Alone
, I've always regarded the sequel as being just a little bit better. The premise from the original to this film doesn't change very much, however I love the dynamic here as Kevin takes on an entire city by himself. I'm an adult and I'm still envious of Kevin gallivanting around New York City in a limo while eating his own personal cheese pizza. The hijinks have returned and the beating suffered by the Sticky Bandits is twice as bad as the original as Kevin finds new and inventive ways to ruin a couple criminals' holidays. The cat and mouse dynamic between Kevin and The Plaza Hotel's staff provides for a lot of funny moments, and I especially like the friendship built between Kevin and Brenda Fricker's "Pigeon Lady" character. Chris Columbus and John Hughes hit the jackpot again, creating another cult Christmas classic for the ages! Whatever you do, you must certainly make time for this movie this holiday season!
Stars (out of 4):
Fun Fact:
Macaulay Culkin was paid $4.5 million to star in the film, the biggest salary ever to a twelve-year-old child actor.
