Review: Chief Jesse Stone (Tom Selleck) reopens an unsolved murder case and uncovers more than he bargained for in this rich crime drama that's one of the best in the long running movie series.

Jesse Stone: Sea Change is the fourth film adaptation from Robert B. Parker's book series, and the last to use plot-lines from the actual novels. Here Jesse Stone needs to find something to occupy his time and his mind rather than his ex-wife and booze. He opens an unsolved case concerning the murder of a bank teller. And if that wasn't enough, there's some sleazy shenanigans going on as the town of Paradise celebrates their annual Race Week. Oh, and his deputy Molly (Viola Davis) is on maternity leave and Deputy Suitcase Simpson (Kohl Sudduth) is still comatose. Jesse has plenty on his plate.

What makes these movies so good is that it has several story-lines going on all at once that have interesting characters and take the time so you get invested in those characters, their circumstances, and how they relate to each other and the story. Jesse Stone is a severally flawed hero and those flaws make him relatable and compelling to watch. And you're never really sure where to story is going to take you. The dialogue is rich, smart, and keeps you guessing...as a good mystery should.

I think I just keep repeating myself with every Jesse Stone movie review I do (Stone Cold (Jesse Stone: Stone Cold), Jesse Stone: Night Passage, and Jesse Stone: Death in Paradise), but I can't help it - I love these movies! They make for one of the most entertaining film series I have ever watched. Trust me, start with (Stone Cold (Jesse Stone: Stone Cold) and you'll be hooked. And by the time you get to Jesse Stone: Sea Change you'll be a serious Stone fan of the series.

Stars (out of 4):

Fun Fact: Jesse is talking to Suitcase, who is in a coma, about an incident in which a man in Australia, who was in a coma for ten years, woke up and said, "I'll have a cappuccino." In Magnum, P.I., when Magnum is in a coma, Higgins tells him a story about a man who woke up and said, "I'd like a pint of stout." Suitcase wakes up asking for a cappuccino, and Magnum wakes up asking for a pint of stout.
