Review: Gary King (Simon Pegg) is an immature 40-year-old who's dying to take another stab at an epic pub-crawl that he last attempted 20 years earlier. He drags his reluctant buddies back to their hometown and sets out for a night of heavy drinking. As they make their way toward their ultimate destination -- the fabled World's End pub -- Gary and his friends attempt to reconcile the past and present. However, the real struggle is for the future when their journey turns into a battle for mankind.

The World's End is the final installment in the fabulous Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy. Shaun of the Dead saw Simon Pegg and Nick Frost take on a horde of blood-thirsty zombies, and Hot Fuzz saw them take on a crazed small-town cult. Now it's to get drunk, go on a bar crawl, and battle some blue-blooded (literally) robots. I love this entire trilogy because each film, while fundamentally similar, bring something new and fun to the table. It's amazing how this film is able to be completely silly while also maintaining a lot of heart as our group of childhood friends attempt the infamous Golden Mile bar crawl that they failed to complete in their youth. A juvenile concept for sure, but underneath that is a concept that all of us deal with in our lives; the simple idea that we all grow up and our friend groups sometimes disperse into different facets of life. It's important to remember the good 'ol days and Pegg, Frost, and their group of friends have to do just that in order to band together to survive the night. Some groups of old friends choose to reminisce about their childhoods. Others fight robot gangs in bar bathrooms, or hit on a trio of attractive young robot ladies. Either way, once the robotic blue blood starts spilling, all the booze starts flowing, the night flies off the rails fast! With twists and turns throughout, this movie does a great job of building a heartfelt tale while also keeping you on your toes. The writing is witty and clever, the humor lands, and the film maintains it's freshness as it tonally shifts from silly to serious and back again. There's a little bit of everything in this film for those who enjoy the comedy and sci-fi genres, and it's a movie that fans of the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy will surely enjoy!

Fun Fact: When Sam (Rosamund Pike) joins the boys at The Old Familiar, everyone stands to greet her except for Gary King (Simon Pegg). This alludes to their medieval surnames (King, Knight(ley), Page, Chamberlain, Prince) where everyone in the King's court would rise to greet a visitor, except for the King himself.
