Review: Jesse Stone is back! During an unauthorized stakeout, Jesse (Tom Selleck) and Captain Healy (Stephen McHattie) are shot. While Healy fights for his life Stone is out for justice. His search for the shooter leads him to the Boston underworld and a BPD investigator (Leslie Hope). Stone also gets approached by a heart-broken mother (Camryn Manheim) to help her find her kidnapped son.

I am a huge fan of the Jesse Stone made-for-TV film series. Be sure to check out my other reviews for the previous installments (Stone Cold (Jesse Stone: Stone Cold), Jesse Stone: Night Passage, and Jesse Stone: Death in Paradise and Jesse Stone: Sea Change). They all have interesting characters, great writing, compelling drama, and Jesse Stone: Thin Ice is no different. But, I think this time around, the story just didn't grab me like the previous films. Is it because this is the first of the series not to be based on one of Robert B. Parker's books? I'm not sure. The search for the shooter plot is interesting enough, but the story of the kidnapping doesn't quite gel for me. It's as consistently entertaining as the rest, but it seems to be missing something. I just can't quite put my finger on it.

Now, I do enjoy Jesse Stone: Thin Ice very much. It's solid entertainment and keeps you guessing through all of its twists and turns, but ultimately I don't quite hold it in the highest regard like the previous entries.

Fun Fact: This is the first Jesse Stone movie not based on a novel by Robert B. Parker.
