Review: When a mysterious female vigilante appears in Gotham City it's up to Batman to determine whether she is friend or foe. Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman is the third animated feature after Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero that takes place in the "Batman: the Animated Series" universe. It's the weakest of the three, but what sets this one apart is that it's a genuine mystery. Who is the Batwoman? Batman and the audience will spend the majority of the runtime searching for clues to solve this mystery which really gets you engaged in the story. It's fun, clever, and keeps the audience guessing. The only downside here is the lack of Shirley Walker's brilliant music that accompanied all the previous Batman animated features and the seminal series. If you enjoy the Dark Knight in all his forms then be sure to check out this enjoyable action-packed animated Batman adventure!
Fun Fact: David Ogden Stiers takes on the role of the Penguin, who was played regularly throughout Batman: The Animated Series (1992) series by Paul Williams. Williams was originally considered for this movie, but the producers decided to use Stiers to give the Penguin a more threatening ambiance.
