Review: The Earth has been chosen as the next world for the destructive Darkseid (Tony Todd) to conquer. The Justice League must take the fight to Apokolips and defeat the New God on his home world before he reaches ours. But what happens when the world's most powerful super heroes are lead into a trap? Can they overcome the odds and vanquish this most fearsome of foes? Or will Darkseid reign supreme? Get ready for the war to end all wars - the Justice League Dark: Apokolips War!

I am a huge fan of the DC Universe Animated Movies. More often than not, they get the characters right, unlike the live-action attempts - I'm talking about you Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice! Usually these animated features are the right kind of dark (Batman: Gotham By Gaslight, Constantine: City of Demons and Justice League Dark), and still add humor and pathos to these compelling stories - as all good stories should. Unfortunately, for some DC fans, this time around might be far too dark, and depressing.

Darkseid, along with his minions, are vile, vicious, and pose a more serious threat than any other bad guy that's come before. The stakes are as high as they can get! And Justice League Dark: Apokolips War is not shy about showing the graphic brutality done to some of our favorite heroes. Members of the Justice League are unceremoniously dispatched which I found startlingly shocking, but it's purposeful to illustrate just how deadly Darkseid truly is.

For the entire runtime you are put through the ringer. The intensity of the story and the severity of the situation will keep you on the edge of your seat. Character deaths, and there are so many, will have your jaw repeatedly dropping to the floor. This movie is, at its core, a story about sacrifice and survival - and it's heavy... very heavy. It's definitely not a "feel good" movie, but it is compelling, entertaining, and - without a doubt - intense! And just about every character from the DC Comics universe gets a moment to shine, for what it's worth. From Harley Quinn and John Constantine to Raven and Lois Lane. They are all here working together to literally save the world.

I did enjoy this shocking story, but I'm not sure that I'll revisit it anytime soon. I think DC fans will be divided on Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. The action and character drama will keep you invested, but the graphic bloody violence might turn some off, so viewer discretion is advised. If war is hell then this movie is perfectly titled.
